1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.13 percent, at 2,875.81 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.24 percent higher at 9,605.19 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 342.5 billion yuan (about 48.75 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 341.6 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered winners by 735 to 649 on the Shanghai bourse, while most stocks rose in Shenzhen, with winners outnumbering losers by 1,057 to 974.

Companies in semiconductors and cement sectors posted strong performance, with shares of Yangzhou Yangjie Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. surging by the daily 10-percent limit to close at 16.71 yuan per share.

Shares related to medicine and graphite electrode led the losses. Tonghua Dongbao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. saw its stocks slip 9.27 percent to 12.04 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.28 percent to close at 1,669.54 points. Enditem
