WCBA Roundup: Shanxi, Dongguan stay unbeaten

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Shanxi and Dongguan struggled to defeat their opponents, and Beijing routed Daqing 100-67 in the 2019-20 season of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Saturday.

7-round unbeaten Shanxi and Dongguan encountered little resistance before Saturday's match. However, the 7th round witnessed both teams running on the inferior side for most time.

Elizabeth Cambage's big double-double helped Shanxi to survived 89-84 in the tight game with home fighting Inner Mongolia.

Two sides tied at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Inner Mongolia's surge. With Zhang Yuqi scored a three-pointer, the host side once widen the gap to 10 points.

The guest team fought back in the third quarter. Thanks to Wu Tongtong's crucial three-pointer and Cambage's stable performance at the inside, Shanxi reversed the scoreboard to lead by 66-60.

Inner Mongolia pushed constantly pressure to the guest team in the fourth quarter, making Shanxi fouled frequently. Natasha Howard's outstanding 90.9 percent free throw percentage helped the home side retake the lead.

However, Cambage proved more efficient on movement, delivered 41 points and 11 rebounds to make her the key weapon that extinguished Inner Mongolia's flood of attack.

Dongguan also fought hard to beat the visiting Xinjiang. The home side's Huang Sijing and Li Yueru joined hands to grab 60 points in Dongguan's 95-88 victory.

Xinjiang rushed earlier in the first quarter to lead by 27-21. Although Dongguan enhanced its offense in the second quarter, the guest team still held two points lead before entering the second half.

The third quarter saw Huang Sijing score constant 3-pointers from the outside and Li Yueru's dominance at inside. Wang Lili's free throw helped Dongguan to take lead. Then the gap was widen to 10 by Shen Yi's 3-pointer, which also give the home side a relatively safe zone when Xinjiang attempted to fought back in the fourth quarter.

Also unbeaten in seven rounds, Beijing smashed seven straight losing side Daqing 100-67. The other two no-win records were posted by Shaanxi and Henan, which were routed by Bayi with 104-84 and Shandong with 84-33 respectively.

In other matches, Zhejiang narrowly defeated Hebei 81-78, Shanghai edged Sichuan 94-91, Jiangsu passed Fujian 93-84, Tianjin crashed Wuhan 93-68. Enditem
