BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Xinhua 500 Index, which tracks 500 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity on China's A-share market, closed lower at 4,080.7 points on Monday, down 0.15 percent.

Launched on Nov. 22, the index is compiled by Xinhua Finance, a national financial information platform undertaken by the China Economic Information Service.

The index set its base date at Dec. 31, 2004, starting at 1,000 points. Enditem
