QINGDAO, China, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- After an empty-handed day Thursday, China still failed to win a medal on the second day of the Qingdao World Judo Masters 2019 here on Friday. The best result for the hosts was a fifth place taken by Tang Jing in the women's -63kg category.

Meanwhile, Japan continued their dominance, winning half of the four golds on offer. Belgium and the Netherlands claimed a gold each.

Tang, 24, winner of the women's -63kg category at the World Military Games this year, lost to Japan's World No. 2 Doi Masako in the third-place play-off and ranked fifth. Japan's Nabekura Nami won the gold medal, beating Clarisse Agbegnenou of France to the second place. Doi and her teammate Tashiro Miku shared third place.

"I am disappointed," said Tang. "I had expected to stand on the podium. I made mistakes in tactics and some details, and gave chance to my opponent."

"But I also learned something," she added. "I think I can improve."

Tang, runner-up of the Huhhot World Judo Grand Prix in May, ranked 11th on the Olympic qualifying standings.

In other categories, Japan won the men's -73kg category title as Hashimoto Soichi defeated Tohar Butbul of Israel. Rustam Orujov of Azerbaijan and Ebinuma Masashi of Japan took bronzes.

Belgium and the Netherlands claimed the men's -81kg category and the women's -70kg category titles respectively.

The Qingdao World Judo Masters runs from Dec. 12 to 14 and is the last competition of the 2019 World Judo Tour. It serves as an important qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Games. A total of 445 judokas took part in the Qingdao World Masters, aiming to score Olympic ranking points. Enditem
