BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's health news from the past week:
-- China to strengthen medicine price monitoring
China's National Healthcare Security Administration has issued a guideline to strengthen regular supervision on medicine prices.
The administration will adopt measures including monitoring, warning, information disclosure and credit appraisal, aiming to establish and improve an effective price monitoring mechanism to better leverage the role of the government under market conditions.
-- China starts nationwide inspection on drug control
China's narcotics control authority has started its annual inspection on drug control in 31 provincial-level regions across the country.
The month-long campaign, organized by the National Narcotics Control Commission, aims to scrutinize the rectification of major drug problems and the implementation of anti-drug laws, regulations and policies, and check on local governments' work on enhancing accountability, strengthening support for drug control and improving drug control governance systems.
-- China to further reform centralized drug procurement system
China vowed to advance the reform of its drug procurement system to make healthcare services and medicines more affordable to patients, according to a guideline released by the National Healthcare Security Administration.
The system of centralized procurement of drugs in large quantities generates effects of group buying and saves charges and fees in the distribution process, leading to a substantial cut in drug prices. Enditem
