BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's coastal bulk freight market has seen a decline in general demand in the week ending Friday, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).

The composite index for coastal bulk freight fell 6 percent week on week to 1,121.76, the SSE said.

The coal sub-index dropped by 7.8 percent to 1,103.35 last week.

The sub-index for metal ore decreased by 4.8 percent to 1,069.81, and that for grain shrank by 10.8 percent to 933.03.

The refined oil products index rose 0.1 percent to 1,925.55, while the crude oil index remained flat at 1,557.48.

The SSE initiated the index in 2001 under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport to reflect the fluctuations of the Chinese coastal transport market. Enditem
