CHANGCHUN, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China's Jilin Province will build more than 500 skating venues and 60 ski resorts in the following three years, provincial Governor Jing Junhai said Sunday.

The province will spare no efforts to promote the ice and snow tourism and economy, which have become a new growth engine for Jilin, Jing said when delivering a government work report at the opening of the local annual legislative session.

Jilin recently pledged to have over 10 million people in the province involved in ice and snow sports and attract 100 million people to its ice and snow-themed tourist activities by 2022.

Yang Andi, head of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that in the past people always complained that northeast China was too cold but now more and more tourists rush to the region for its winter landscape, sports, hot springs and delicacies.

China is expected to see booming ice and snow tourism as the country prepares for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

In the 2021-2022 winter season, the country is expected to have 340 million ice and snow tourists with a tourism revenue of 680 billion yuan (around 97.6 billion U.S. dollars), according to a report released by the China Tourism Academy. Enditem
