SHANGHAI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-six primary and secondary schools from Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang set up the Yangtze River Delta League of Jiangnan Sizhu in Shanghai to better preserve the traditional Chinese instrumental music.

Jiangnan Sizhu originated, became popular and developed well in eastern China's Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai. It is a kind of traditional instrumental ensemble composed of stringed instruments and bamboo pipe instruments.

It became a national intangible cultural heritage project in 2006.

The establishment of the league was a strong measure to preserve the traditional cultural heritage, said Jiang Wei from Shanghai Mass Art Center.

"In the future, we will bring Jiangnan Sizhu to more primary and secondary schools, injecting new blood and vitality into the inheritance of the intangible cultural heritage," said Jiang. Enditem
