BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's health news from the past week:

-- China confirms human-to-human transmission of 2019-nCoV, infection of medical staff

A high-level expert team of China's National Health Commission Monday confirmed people-to-people transmission of a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and infection of medical staff.

Zhong Nanshan, a renowned respiratory expert and head of the team, said two cases in Guangdong Province were confirmed to be people-to-people transmission.

-- WHO experts visit Wuhan for pneumonia epidemic

A group of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited Wuhan on Monday and Tuesday to inspect work related to the pneumonia epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

They went to see the whole process of screening, quarantine and treatment of patients with fever at a local hospital and visited the laboratory of the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and inspected body temperature monitoring for outbound travelers at the airport and customs of Wuhan.

The WHO said it will continue stepping up cooperation with China and provide relevant technical support.

-- China reports 1,287 confirmed cases of new coronavirus pneumonia

Chinese health authorities announced Saturday that 1,287 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), including 237 in critical conditions, had been reported in the country by the end of Friday.

The pneumonia situation had resulted in 41 deaths, including 39 in central China's Hubei Province, one in north China's Hebei Province and one in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, according to the National Health Commission. Enditem
