1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.34 percent to 2,783.29 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.17 percent higher at 10,089.67 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 910 billion yuan (about 130 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from about 520 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 883 to 586 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,343 to 829 in Shenzhen.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 4.84 percent to close at 1,882.69 points.

Shares in medical and cloud office sectors led the gains with Harbin Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. and Xiamen 35.com Technology Co., Ltd., which offers mobile cloud office solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises, surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.

China had extended the seven-day Spring Festival holiday to Feb. 2 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus and some local governments suggested company employees work from home for the time being. Enditem
