1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.25 percent to 2,818.09 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.14 percent higher at 10,305.5 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 872.3 billion yuan (about 125 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 910 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 1,306 to 152 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,980 to 188 in Shenzhen.

Shares in mask, medical and cloud office sectors led the gains, with the shares of Shandong Lukang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.

Stocks in banking and insurance sectors saw losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.02 percent to close at 1,939.62 points Wednesday. Enditem
