BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key technology news from the past week:

RAPID TEST KITS

China's Ministry of Science and Technology Saturday released an application guide on its website to solicit research and development projects on rapid test kits for the novel coronavirus.

The ministry said that current nucleic acid detection reagents require long time, fussy operations and centralized detection. They are unable to meet the fast-growing needs of the quick testing on suspected patients and asymptomatic infections.

ONLINE DOCTOR CONSULTATION

An online doctor consultation platform for combating the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) had received 118,000 visits by the end of Tuesday, according to the Beijing Evening News on Thursday.

The free online platform was opened to the public on Feb. 1. Citizens can access the platform by following the WeChat account of the Beijing Medical Association.

INVENTION PATENT APPLICATIONS

With the continued growth of the number of invention patent applications, China will further shorten the process of patent review, the industry watchdog said Thursday.

By the end of 2022, the processing time for an invention patent application will be cut to about 16.5 months and for a high-value patent 13.8 months. The average time for processing a trademark application will be reduced to within four months, the fastest worldwide, according to a statement by China's National Intellectual Property Administration.

HYDROGEN PRODUCTION FROM INDUSTRIAL WASTE

Chinese researchers have developed a new method to produce hydrogen from the industrial waste of sulfureted hydrogen.

The electrocatalytic decomposition of abundant and toxic sulfureted hydrogen from industrial byproducts is a promising energy conversion technology for hydrogen production as the environmental pollutants can be simultaneously removed.

The researchers reported a remarkable graphene-encapsulated metal catalyst for highly efficient electrocatalytic hydrogen production from sulfureted hydrogen. The optimized catalyst delivered almost twice the current density than that of the platinum-carbon catalyst. Enditem
