BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's postal and courier enterprises had handled 10,552 tonnes of materials for the prevention and control of novel coronavirus pneumonia by the end of Feb. 8, official data showed.

A total of 47.51 million parcels were sent through 3,331 road trips and 120 air trips, which effectively eased the pressure on transportation, according to the State Post Bureau (SPB).

The SPB organized China's major courier enterprises to set up "green channels" at home and abroad to send medical materials and equipment to the front line of the epidemic control efforts at the earliest date.

To meet the urgent and high demand for transporting medical supplies, the SPB mobilized postal and courier companies to optimize networks, opening six domestic air freight routes linking Wuhan with several logistics centers such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Weifang.

Two international air cargo routes were also set up, connecting Incheon and Beijing, as well as Tokyo and Wuhan, the SPB said.

China's major courier firms started to resume operation Monday. The SPB urged courier companies to restore over 40 percent of their normal handling capacity by mid-February.

Postal and courier companies are required to take health protection measures including taking the temperature of employees, requiring employees to wear masks while on duty and carrying out regular vehicle ventilation and disinfection work. Enditem
