CAIRO -- Egypt condemned on Wednesday a recent terrorist attack that targeted an Algerian army barracks near its border with Mali and left one soldier dead.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry expressed Cairo's solidarity with the Algerian people and government, extending condolences to the family of the deceased soldier. (Egypt-Algeria-Condemnation)

TRIPOLI -- Indiscriminate shelling on Wednesday injured 5 civilians in Libya's capital Tripoli, the UN-backed government's forces said.

The shelling hit Al-Firnaj, a residential area in central Tripoli, the forces said, accusing the rival eastern-based army of the shelling. (Libya-Shelling)

TEHRAN -- At least seven people died due to heavy snowfall and an avalanche incident in Iran's northern Gilan province, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

The spokesperson for Iran's National Emergency Service, Mojtaba Khaledi, said 78 others were also injured due to extreme weather conditions and snow-related incidents across the province. (Iran-Snowfall)

BEIRUT -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said Wednesday that a new phase has begun in Lebanon after the new cabinet's success in gaining a vote of confidence a day earlier, a statement by the president's office reported.
