BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

DETECTOR FOR COVID-19

Chinese researchers have developed a portable detector for suspected cases of COVID-19.

The detector, developed by a research team from the School of Precision Instrument and Opto-Telectronics Engineering of Tianjin University and enterprises, can detect suspected cases rapidly and realize big data monitoring and early warnings.

NOVEL CORONAVIRUS VACCINE

A candidate vaccine targeting the novel coronavirus has been tested on animals, according to the news portal yicai.com, citing sources with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The mRNA vaccine was co-developed by the CDC, Shanghai-based Tongji University School of Medicine and Stermirna Therapeutics Co., Ltd. The vaccine samples were injected into more than 100 mice.

After that there will be toxicity tests on larger animals such as monkeys to ensure the safety of the vaccine in human clinical trials.

AI IMAGE DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM FOR COVID-19

A medical image quantitative analysis system assisted by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been developed for COVID-19 diagnosis.

The system, developed by the Huazhong University of Science and Technology and tech giant Huawei, can automatically generate precise quantitative results for a single case and assist the doctors to distinguish the early, progressive and severe periods of the disease. Enditem
