1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Thursday

BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.71 percent, at 2,906.07 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.7 percent lower at 10,864.32 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 871.1 billion yuan (about 124.8 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 790.07 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 1,181 to 278 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,661 to 502 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sectors of chips, photovoltaic and agriculture saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Ingenic Semiconductor Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.

Stocks in mask and online education sectors led the losses.

Meanwhile, global index provider MSCI has announced to add six more Chinese A-shares to the MSCI China A Onshore Index from Feb. 28, including transport giant Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway which debuted on the A-share market in mid-January.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.99 percent to close at 2,064.6 points Thursday. Enditem
