BAGHDAD -- Four Katyusha rockets fired overnight on the Green Zone in central Baghdad, three of them landed inside the heavily fortified zone, which houses the U.S. embassy, the Iraqi military said on Sunday.

The incident took place late on Saturday night when unknown militants fired the rockets, but one of them landed on a paramilitary Hashd Shaabi headquarters near the Police Academy in Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad, the media office affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement. TEHRAN -- A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Laft region in Iran's southern province of Hormozgan on Sunday, according to Iran's Seismological Center.

The earthquake took place at 4 p.m. local time (1230 GMT), with the focus at the depth of 13 km, 26.925 degrees north latitude and 55.875 degrees east longitude. (Iran-Earthquake)

DAMASCUS -- The Syrian government forces have captured 13 villages and towns in the northern and northwestern countryside of Aleppo Province in northern Syria over the past 24 hours, a war monitor reported Sunday.
