1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares rally Monday

BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.28 percent, at 2,983.62 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.98 percent higher at 11,241.50 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 937.2 billion yuan (about 134.3 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 813 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 1,457 to 29 on the Shanghai bourse and 2,132 to 50 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sectors of farming, logistics and military industry saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Deppon Logistics Co., Ltd. rising by the daily 10-percent limit to 11.58 yuan per share.

Heilongjiang Agriculture Co., Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 13.20 yuan a share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.72 percent to close at 2,146.18 points Monday. Enditem
