Work continues on infrastructure projects in Tibet

LHASA, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Workers are continuing their work on a series of infrastructure projects in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

In the county of Sa'gya, a water project is in progress. With the biggest investment ever in Tibet's water project history, the project will help with irrigation, supply water, generate power and prevent flooding.

Meanwhile, 1,881 workers in Tibet are doing their best to construct the Lhasa-Nyingchi railway. With a designed speed of 160 km/h, it will be the first electrified railway in Tibet.

The railway project had used of 27.2 billion yuan (3.9 billion U.S. dollars) in investment by mid-February, and operation will begin in 2021. Workers have completed 44 tunnels out of 47 and 119 bridges out of 120 along the route.

Tibet has arranged 179 projects for this year, with an expected investment of 187.2 billion yuan, up 18 percent year on year. Work has resumed on some of these projects. Enditem
