BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
AI PHONE CALLS FOR HEALTH SCREENING
Central China's Hubei Province, center of the novel coronavirus outbreak, is using AI-powered phone calls for asking residents about their temperature, according to its developer.
Voice recognition is applied to the residents' replies, which are used as evidence for health screening, according to its developer Hubei branch of telecommunication giant China Mobile.
PM2.5 & CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Long-term exposure to high levels of PM2.5, a major particle matter pollutant, increases the risk of cardiovascular disease among the Chinese population, according to a recent study.
Air pollution is a major global environmental and public health issue. Researchers from Beijing-based Fuwai Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences evaluated the association between long-term exposure to PM2.5 and cardiovascular disease incidence and mortality based on data collected from more than 110,000 Chinese residents.
POLLEN RESEARCH
Chinese scientists have discovered that pollen flow can be an indicator of the Asian summer monsoon's intensity and flow direction above the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
The scientists studied a dataset of the surface pollen on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and found that the spatial distribution trend of the exotic tree pollen's relative abundance is highly coupled with the path of the Asian summer monsoon and the extent to which it encroached on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
