China's weekly farm produce prices ease

BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Prices of farm produce in China edged down last week with a decrease in the wholesale prices of meat, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

From March 9 to 15, the overall prices of farm produce dipped 1.2 percent on a weekly basis.

In breakdown, the wholesale price of pork eased 0.2 percent from the previous week and the price of beef went down 0.1 percent. The price of mutton lost 0.5 percent.

Prices of poultry-related products saw a decline, with the wholesale price of eggs down by 1 percent week on week.

The average wholesale price of 30 types of vegetables dropped 4.6 percent from the previous week.

Food accounts for about one-third of China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation.

The latest official data showed China's CPI rose 5.2 percent year on year in February. Enditem
