KUNMING, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and five injured in an explosion in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

The accident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at an idle coal mine in Yanjin County in the city of Zhaotong. The explosion site was around 50 meters from the mine shaft.

An initial investigation showed that the explosion was caused by on-duty mine employees burning illegally stored explosives in the mine.

Further investigation is underway. Enditem
