BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.61 percent, at 2,745.62 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.3 percent higher at 10,150.13 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 717.04 billion yuan (about 101 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 822.47 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,243 to 216 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,678 to 457 in Shenzhen.
Companies in the sectors of hotel and tourism, ceramics and cement saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Lijiang Yulong Tourism Co. Ltd. rising by the daily 10-percent limit to 6.67 yuan per share.
Zhejiang Kaier New Materials Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 12.69 yuan per share.
Bucking the upward trend, companies in the industries of semiconductor, aquaculture and network security led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.06 percent to close at 1,915.05 points. Enditem
