HARBIN, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China's major agricultural province of Heilongjiang is expected to have a stable rice output, an increase in corn and wheat, and a small decrease in soybean this year, based on its spring plowing plan, according to the provincial department of agriculture and rural affairs.
The department said the province has planned 14.3 million hectares of crop planting area this spring and appropriated 90.3 billion yuan (12.7 billion U.S. dollars) of funds to ensure the agricultural production.
Over 719,000 tonnes of seeds of rice, soybean, corn and wheat have been processed for seeding. A total of 4.429 million tonnes of chemical fertilizers are in stock along with 27,800 tonnes of pesticides. Meanwhile, 987,000 tonnes of diesel oil is prepared for powering farming machinery.
In preparation for the spring plowing, 2.769 million sets of agricultural machinery have been overhauled for use in the province, which has seen 97 percent of the farming carried out with comprehensive mechanization.
Heilongjiang has 200,000 rural cooperatives for large-scale plantations. Known as China's "grain barn," the province boasts the country's largest plantations of rice, corn and beans in vast tracts of fertile farmland. Enditem
