HONG KONG, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 59 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday afternoon, bringing the total of confirmed cases in Hong Kong to 641.

The 59 new cases involve 30 males and 29 females aged between 11 and 77. Among them 40 people had travel history during the incubation period, including 18 students who had been studying overseas, Head of the CHP's Communicable Disease Branch Chuang Shuk-kwan told a daily press briefing.

For the rest 19 confirmed patients who had no travel history, seven were close contacts of some patients confirmed earlier, and at least three were linked to bars which have reported confirmed cases before. Six infections' sources have not been found out yet.

According to the Department of Health of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, Hong Kong has reported over 300 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases between March 23 and 29, with 65 new confirmed cases on Friday, 64 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday, which proved to be a rapid growth than earlier days.

Given a growing increase of confirmed cases in Hong Kong recently, the HKSAR government has announced a new round of six measures including requiring restaurants to close half of all the seats to limit the number of diners.

HKSAR government's secretary for food and health Sophia Chan Sunday morning told media that during her inspection on Saturday, she noticed that most of restaurants followed the new restriction and diners also followed new rules.

"I hope companies and customers continue to follow those epidemic-prevention measures, and the government will also step up efforts to inspect in order to fight against the epidemic," Chan said. Enditem
