CAIRO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Health Ministry announced on Sunday 33 new cases of COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the country to 609, including 40 deaths.

In addition, 11 Egyptians infected with the novel coronavirus recovered, raising the number of the cured to 132, said Khaled Megahed, the ministry's spokesman, in a statement.

He also announced the death of four Egyptians from the epidemic disease after their arrival at hospitals in a deteriorating health condition.

Egypt's deaths of COVID-19 include six foreigners: three Germans, two Italians and one Indian.

"All the cases that are registered positive for the virus are receiving medical care at quarantine hospitals according to the instructions of the World Health Organization," said Megahed.

To control the spread of the coronavirus, the Egyptian government has suspended schools, universities and all classes, halted flights, stopped mass prayers in mosques and churches and shut down museums and archeological sites nationwide.

Further, the cabinet has recently imposed a two-week partial curfew across Egypt from early evening to early morning as an essential part of the anti-virus precautionary measures. Enditem
