VIENTIANE -- Medical equipment provided by China to help Laos fight the COVID-19 pandemic were handed over in the Lao capital Vientiane on Monday.

The materials include 2,016 testing kits, 5,000 sets of protective clothing and 405,000 face masks, according to the Chinese embassy in Laos. (Laos-China-Donation)

HONG KONG -- Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam Monday reiterated zero tolerance toward breaches of quarantine orders as three men were sentenced to imprisonment for breaching the compulsory quarantine orders aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

TOKYO -- Japan plans to extend its ban on foreign entrants to cover those who have recently been to the United States, China and South Korea and most parts of Europe in bid to curb the import and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, state sources said on Monday.

The entry ban will be applicable to foreigners who have stayed in the countries within two weeks of arriving in Japan, the sources said, adding that both Japanese and foreigners returning from areas not subjected to the ban will still be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) said on Monday that no significant outflows from the Hong Kong dollar or the banking system were observed during the past six months ending February.
