BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Several channels on the mobile application of China's biggest search engine Baidu have temporarily suspended content updates following severe violations of regulations, according to authorities Wednesday.

The Baidu app's recommendation, picture, video, finance, and science and technology channels suspended updating starting 9 a.m. Wednesday, with a clean-up of regulation-violating contents and an in-depth rectification to be conducted.

The Cyberspace Administration of China on Tuesday instructed Beijing municipal cyberspace office to tell Baidu to immediately stop relevant violations.

An official from Beijing municipal cyberspace office said that Baidu app violated national laws and regulations on cyberspace and related requirements for management, and was ineffective in performing its main responsibilities.

The official said they have found evidence of mass dissemination of vulgar information, false stories with sensational headlines and lax content review and blogger management on the part of Baidu.

A spokesperson of Baidu said it would strictly implement the management requirements and comprehensively rectify the violations to ensure that similar problems will not happen again. Enditem
