SANAA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Two people died when floodwaters caused by heavy rain swept them away in Yemen's capital Sanaa, local health authorities said on Tuesday.

"Bodies of a kid and a man dragged by the flash floods were discovered on Monday in al-Sabeen neighbourhood, south of Sanaa," a health official told Xinhua.

Torrential rains and flash floods have affected many houses in al-Sabeen and other neighborhoods in the capital, said the residents and local media.

Several roads in downtown Sanaa were closed because of the deluge.

The authorities have warned the residents of further extreme weather on much of the country's northern cities.

Residents are in fear of epidemics spread in the rainy season as the ongoing civil war has damaged more than a half of Yemen's health facilities and disabled much of the infrastructure for clean water and sanitation.

Cholera in Yemen has set the world's highest record with the infection of 1 million people and over 2,000 have been confirmed dead since 2017, according to the World Health Organization. Enditem
