Roundup: Turkey's confirmed cases exceed 110,000; Iran registers over 90,000 cases in total

CAIRO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Sunday reported 2,357 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 110,130. Meanwhile, Iran has registered 90,481 cases after 1,153 new ones were added in the past 24 hours.
In Turkey, the new epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Middle East, the death toll of the coronavirus has reached 2,805 after 99 new cases were added.
A total of 1,776 are still being treated at intensive care units.
To cushion the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Turkish government has taken steps worth 200 billion liras (28.7 billion U.S. dollars) since the outbreak, including tax postponement, short-time working allowance and minimum wage support.
Iran continued to witness slowdown in the epidemic, where the death toll from the novel coronavirus has hit 5,710 while 69,657 have recovered with 3,079 still in critical condition, according to the country's health ministry.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that the country will be divided into three risk zones based on the number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Education would draw up a map of white, yellow and red risk zones in the country, Rouhani said.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus patients in Israel has reached 15,443, after 145 new cases were added.
The Israeli media estimated that the country's education system will be partially opened on May 3 if there is no large increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the coming days.
The government also approved reopening street shops and outdoor shopping malls. The indoor malls will remain closed at this time.
In Saudi Arabia, 1,223 new COVID-19 infections were registered on Sunday, bringing the total number to 17,522. It also registered three deaths to increase the fatalities to 139 cases.
Saudi Arabia and China signed on Sunday a deal for expanding coronavirus testing capacity.
The project under the deal will significantly enhance the Saudi capacity in virus detection and contribute to the Saudi people's fight against the pandemic, said Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chen Weiqing at a signing ceremony held in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia.
As the first among the Gulf countries to report COVID-19 cases, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced 536 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 10,349.
The UAE's health ministry also confirmed five more deaths, taking the death toll to 76.
Qatar's health ministry announced 929 new infections of the novel coronavirus, increasing the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 10,287.
Iraqi Health Ministry on Sunday said that a total of 1,820 COVID-19 cases were confirmed and 87 deaths were recorded in the country.
A Chinese team of medical experts had left Baghdad on Sunday, heading to China after 50 days of hard work of supporting the Iraqi health system to contain the COVID-19 epidemic.
At a farewell ceremony held at Baghdad International Airport, Iraqi Minister of Transport Abdullah Luaibi, thanked the Chinese team and offered bouquets for them for their efforts, expressing appreciation for China's assistance to help Iraq to tackle COVID-19.

The Moroccan Ministry of Health confirmed 168 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 4,065 in the country.
The ministry said 161 deaths from COVID-19 were reported while 593 patients have recovered in total.
Lebanon's number of infections increased by three cases to 707 while death toll remained unchanged at 24.
