BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

IOT SATELLITES

China on Tuesday sent two satellites into orbit to test the space-based Internet of Things (IoT) communications technology.

The satellites, Xingyun-2 01 and 02, were launched by a Kuaizhou-1A (KZ-1A) carrier rocket at 9:16 a.m. (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. They have successfully entered their planned orbit.

X-RAY POLARIZATION

Chinese scientists and their international collaborators have detected soft X-ray polarization from the Crab Nebula with their space program PolarLight, reopening the window of soft X-ray polarimetry in astronomy after more than four decades.

The research led by Tsinghua University was published in the journal Nature Astronomy.

Researchers also discovered a variation of X-ray polarization right after a glitch of the Crab pulsar, suggesting that the pulsar magnetosphere may have altered after the glitch.

HIGH-POWER KLYSTRONS

A platform to develop high-power klystrons for big science projects has started construction in Beijing.

High-power klystrons can produce high-energy microwaves, which is key for big science projects such as high-energy collider, controlled thermonuclear fusion facility, synchrotron radiation device, X-ray free electron laser facility, the China Spallation Neutron Source and the "Meridian Project."

SPACE-TRACKING SHIP

Space-tracking ship Yuanwang-5 returned to its port Tuesday, after finishing the latest monitoring mission in the Pacific Ocean for the Long March-5B rocket launch.

The ship has operated 81 days at sea, sailing over 20,000 nautical miles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no port calls were made during the voyage, and more than 80 percent of crew members did not disembark for over 100 days, said Chen Xiaohua, head of the ship. Enditem
