SHANGHAI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra announced on Thursday that the New York Philharmonic will participate online in its summer music festival "Music in the Summer Air" (MISA), which will be held in mid or late July.

Both with a profound history, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic have been expanding their cooperation in recent years. Since 2015, the New York Philharmonic has come to Shanghai and performed in MISA for five consecutive years.

Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States, the New York Philharmonic announced last Thursday that it will not perform in the summer of 2020 to protect its audiences from the epidemic. Its trip to MISA this year is also canceled.

However, it decided to participate in the music festival online and audiences can still enjoy its performances in July. It also promised that they will resume their appearance in Shanghai next year.
