BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China has launched a nationwide campaign against vulgar and illicit online content, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said Friday.

The campaign is scheduled to last eight months and aims to create a cleaner online environment and better regulate information dissemination via the internet, according to the CAC.

Despite the progress made in recent years in cracking down on illegal online activities, the CAC said it still receives reports about vulgar content, cyber violence and personal information abuse.

Stronger and long-term mechanisms will be created to clean up cyberspace, the CAC said, urging participation from all walks of life. Enditem
