HOHHOT, May 22 (Xinhua) -- North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will renovate old urban residential communities involving 205,000 households this year as part of government efforts to improve people's living environments, authorities said on Friday.

The regional government will better meet the residents' basic living needs like security, sanitation, firefighting, roads, lighting, water, electricity, heating and internet access, according to the regional housing and urban-rural development department.

It will also install elevators, increase parking lots and add barrier-free facilities. In addition, it will offer community-based elderly care, nurseries, housekeeping and medical services, the department said in a statement.

The region will set up a collection, transportation and disposal system for residential garbage in rural and pastoral areas to solve environmental problems caused by littering, garbage dumping and burning in the open air, said the statement. Enditem
