BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of China's major cultural news from the past week:

-- China launches rural reading campaign

China launched a special reading campaign Wednesday in Beijing to promote reading in rural areas and improve the services of village-based libraries across the country.

The campaign features nine major activities including reading themed publications, recommending books favored by farmers, sharing of video on book reading and book donations.

-- China releases catalog of key publications for rural libraries

China's National Press and Publication Administration has released a catalog of key publications for rural libraries in 2020.

Altogether 1,781 kinds of books, 113 types of audio and video products and e-publications, 310 kinds of publications in ethnic minority languages, 31 kinds of newspapers and 155 types of periodicals were included in the catalog, according to Thursday's China Press Publication Radio Film and Television Journal.

-- China selects technological innovation projects in culture, tourism industry

China has launched a national campaign to select outstanding scientific and technological innovation projects in the country's culture and tourism industry in 2020, soliciting recommendations from society, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Projects conducive to industrial innovative development, epidemic control and the resumption of work and production should be recommended in the fields of artistic creation and production, public cultural and tourism services, the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and beyond.
