Beijing Olympic bronze winner Xue called up for Chinese beach volleyball training camp

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Beijing Olympic bronze medal winner Xue Chen has been called up for the Chinese national beach volleyball training camp which was scheduled to open early next month.

The 31-year-old, who had worked together with Zhang Xi to win China's first ever Olympic medal in beach volleyball at the Beijing Games in 2008, was joined by Rio de Janeiro Olympian Wang Fan and Xia Xinyi, Wang Xinxin, Wen Shuhui, Wang Jingzhe in the national women's squad while the men's roster features national games champions Gao Peng and Li Yang, according to the announcement of the Volleyball Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport on Wednesday.

Xue also claimed the title at the World Championships in 2013 with Zhang, but failed to qualify for the Rio Games pairing with Xia.

The players will gather in Nanjing on June 8 to start training and preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games, which has been postponed to July 2021. Enditem
