1st LD-Writethru: Chinese stocks close higher Friday

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.4 percent, at 2,930.8 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent higher at 11,180.6 points.

The combined turnover of shares covered by the two major indices stood at 631.52 billion yuan (about 89 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 650.67 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 749 to 668 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,171 to 946 in Shenzhen.

The aviation sector posted strong performance, with shares of China Express Airlines Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 15.32 yuan per share.

Companies in the beer and food processing sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.7 percent to close at 2,166.38 points Friday. Enditem
