BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The FIBA Level One Coaching Course was held in China for the first time in the southern city of Qingyuan.

The six-day course is led by world-class coaches from FIBA and the World Association of Basketball Coaches and has attracted thirty basketball coaches from Guangdong Province to participate.

This course is the core educational resource of the basketball academy co-founded by FIBA and Beijing Enterprises Group Company Limited (BG). Participants will have opportunities to obtain the FIBA Level one coach certificate if they complete the whole course.

"The course is significant for promoting the knowledge exchange and cooperation of basketball between China and the rest of the world, it will be helpful to improve the coaching capability of Chinese grassroots basketball coaches," a letter from FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis read.

"It takes time to learn advanced concepts and training methods, the course is just a beginning. We need to continue to work hard and ensure the success of our coaches' programs and continue to develop the sport we love," said Wang Xuan, an official at the General Administration of Sport of China.

After the first edition concludes this week, the second session will continue from June 21 in Qingyuan with the third one to be held in Xi'an in early July. Enditem
