BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China's cargo throughput at ports stood at about 5.46 billion tonnes in the first five months of this year, official data showed.
The throughput was down 0.8 percent compared with the same period last year, the Ministry of Transport said on its website.
Foreign trade cargo throughput grew 0.9 percent year on year to reach 1.77 billion tonnes in the period.
The recovery of China's transport industry picked up pace in May, with some key indicators continuing to improve, ministry spokesperson Sun Wenjian said on Tuesday.
In May alone, the country's cargo throughput at ports increased by 4.4 percent year on year to 1.26 billion tonnes. The growth was 0.3 percentage points higher than April. Enditem
