1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.61 percent to end at 2,961.52 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.52 percent lower at 11,752.36 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two major indices totaled 716.27 billion yuan (about 101.16 billion U.S. dollars), contracting from 728.72 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 1,025 to 450 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,398 to 756 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the fields of ceramics, medical devices and glass led the gains, with shares of Guangdong Songfa Ceramics Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 16.15 yuan per share.

Shares in cement and financial sectors reported heavy losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.42 percent to close at 2,372.54 points Monday. Enditem
