1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Thursday

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.13 percent to finish at 3,090.57 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.29 percent higher at 12,269.49 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.08 trillion yuan (about 153.07 billion U.S. dollars), rising from 907.27 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 1,204 to 271 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,677 to 495 in Shenzhen.

Sectors of securities, insurance, futures, airport service, as well as shipping led the gains, while the medical device sector and aquaculture led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.2 percent to close at 2,424.39 points Thursday. Enditem
