TAIPEI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The local epidemic monitoring agency said that Taiwan received reports of two new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and Friday after the island saw no new infections for six consecutive days.

One of the new patients, a man in his 50s, developed a fever and throat irritation on June 27 in South Africa and returned to Taiwan on July 1. He tested positive for the virus on Friday, the agency said in a press release.

The other patient, also a man in his 50s, returned to Taiwan from Mexico on July 1 and tested positive for the virus on Thursday. He had a headache, cough, and fever since June 17, but the symptoms have eased since June 25.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Taiwan has risen to 449, the agency said. Enditem
