Shandong defeat Shenzhen in OT to end two-game CBA losing streak (updated)

DONGGUAN, China, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Five players were sent off as the Shandong Heroes defeated the Shenzhen Aviators 111-107 in overtime to end their two-game losing streak in Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Saturday.

Shenzhen started the game with an early 12-5 lead before Shandong managed to erase their deficit with different players getting on the scoreboard. A 10-0 run helped Shenzhen to finish the first half up 48-42.

Gu Quan scored four points to extend Shenzhen's margin to over 10 points in the third quarter. The game became a collection of free throws as Shandong tied the score 98-all in the last minute with two free throws from Zhang Hui. Both teams missed a shot to finish the game in four quarters.

In overtime, Wu Ke shined with four points, three rebounds and two assists to help Shandong beat Shenzhen.

Five players from the two teams were fouled out, namely Tao Hanlin, Jia Cheng, Zhu Rongzhen, Shen Zijie and Li Muhao. The two teams had a combined 71 fouls.

Both Shandong and Shenzhen had five players scoring double figures. Tao Hanlin contributed 24 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Gu Quan and Yang Linyi each had 24 points for Shenzhen.

"The team faced difficulties in the first phase of the games after CBA restarted, we need a key player at the crunch moments," said Yang Wenhai, interim coach of Shandong. "And we need to improve our free throws to prepare for the second phase of the games."

According to the schedule, after Saturday's games, the 10 teams in Dongguan will join the other 10 teams in Qingdao to finish the remainder of the regular season. Enditem
