BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of China's local business news from the past week.

LNG IMPORTS

North China's Tianjin port ranked first in liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports among China's LNG import ports in the first five months of this year, accounting for about 19.5 percent of the country's total LNG imports, according to the Tianjin Customs.

From January to May, LNG imports through the Tianjin port increased 24.8 percent year on year to hit 4.97 million tonnes as LNG price keeps going down.

FAW TOYOTA NEV PROJECT

A new energy vehicle (NEV) project of FAW Toyota was launched on Monday in north China's Tianjin Municipality, according to the Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.

Located in the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, the project is expected to be put into operation in June 2022, and will become an important NEV production plant of FAW Toyota in China after completion, said the company.

HONGQI SALES

China's leading automaker FAW Group said that it has seen a 111-percent year-on-year growth in vehicle sales under its Hongqi brand in the first half of this year.

Despite the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak, more than 70,000 Hongqi cars were sold in the last six months as the company expanded its online and offline sales channels. In June alone, 15,400 cars of the brand were sold, representing a 92-percent year-on-year growth.

AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES TESTING

Beijing opened 52 additional roads on Tuesday in Haidian District, the capital's tech hub, for the testing of autonomous vehicles to push the speedy development of self-driving technology, local authorities said Wednesday.

The roads totaling 215.3 km are part of a demonstration area for self-driving vehicles. They spread over 100 square km in the northern region of Zhongguancun Science City, according to the Haidian district government.

UNIVERSAL BEIJING RESORT

The Universal Beijing Resort has completed its first phase of main building constructions, local authorities said on Thursday.

The construction projects, which started in August 2018, include the Universal Studios theme park, hotels, and other facilities. The theme park is scheduled to open in 2021, and is expected to receive more than 10 million visitors each year.

CHINA-EUROPE FREIGHT TRAINS

China-Europe freight trains to and from Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, made more than 1,600 trips in the first half of this year, almost double the figure for the same period last year, local authorities said Thursday.

Together they carried more than 1.3 million tonnes of goods from January to June, 1.9 times the volume of the first half of last year, according to the Xi'an International Trade & Logistics Park. Enditem
