BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

MARINE SATELLITES

China's domestically developed marine observation satellites will be used to study the distribution of coral reefs in the South China Sea, and facilitate protection and restoration of coral reefs.

The National Satellite Ocean Application Service will cooperate with a coral reef research center in Guangxi University to monitor coral reefs in the South China Sea with the help of marine satellite and high-resolution satellite data.

MARS PROBE

China's Mars probe has been sent to the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan, and preparations for its upcoming launch are underway.

Every 26 months, Mars reaches the closest point to Earth in its orbit, and the nearest launch window to Mars is this year, as launching a spacecraft will use the least amount of fuel.

MICROPLASTICS

Researchers have found that microplastic particles can enter the crop plants and vegetables by penetrating the root system.

A research article published in the journal Nature Sustainability stated that most microplastics are emitted, either directly or through the degradation of plastics, to the terrestrial environment and accumulate in large amounts in soils, posing a potential threat to the ecosystem. Enditem
