1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.37 percent, at 3,333.16 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.89 percent higher at 13,657.03 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices expanded to 1.2 trillion yuan (about 172.12 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.1 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 739 to 640 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,100 to 1,031 in Shenzhen.

Shares related to nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), oil services and transgenic sectors secured substantial gains, with shares of Guangdong Zhongsheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 17.67 yuan per share.

Bucking the upward trend, shares in papermaking, photovoltaic and power sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.19 percent to close at 2,769.03 points Wednesday. Enditem
