TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 298,909 on Wednesday after an overnight registration of 2,636 new infections, state TV reported.

At her daily briefing, Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,604 have been hospitalized. (Iran-COVID-19)

CAIRO -- Egypt on Wednesday lauded the efforts exerted by both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in seeking a political settlement in Yemen, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement, Egyptian Foreign Ministry reiterated "keenness of Saudi Arabia to implement the Riyadh deal and the kingdom's initiatives to speed up the pace of concluding a deal between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC)." (Egypt-Yemen-Saudi Arabia)

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi Deputy Health Minister Hazim al-Jumaili expected on Wednesday that the country will witness a new wave of COVID-19 infections, as the health ministry recorded 2,968 new cases, the highest daily increase since the outbreak of the disease.

"The infections are still high and Iraq is still in the first wave of COVID-19 infections," al-Jumaili told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA). (Iraq-COVID-19)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish police on Wednesday detained 11 people, including nine foreign nationals, in Istanbul over their suspected links to the Islamic State (IS), local media reported.
