BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

BEIDOU SYSTEM

The 55th and last satellite of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has commenced operation in the network after completing in-orbit tests and network access evaluations.

Launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on June 23, the satellite is a geostationary earth orbit satellite of the BDS-3 system, which has been offering basic navigation services to countries and regions along the Belt and Road, as well as the world, since December 2018.

MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

Chinese researchers have developed an early-warning system for myocardial infarction by combining electrocardiogram diagnoses and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Early treatment is key to boosting the survival rate of myocardial infarction patients. An accurate warning system based on electrocardiograms may help prevent delayed treatment.

PLANT INVASION

Chinese researchers have discovered that the plant community showed higher sensitivity to plant invasions than the soil microbial and fauna communities on tropical coral islands.

Plant invasion is a major factor leading to the degradation of indigenous vegetation on tropical coral islands, where ecosystems are more fragile.

LEAF AREA INDEX MONITORING

Chinese researchers have realized continuous national-scale ground observation of the leaf area index by building an automatic monitoring network.

The leaf area index is a dimensionless quantity that describes the total area of a single leaf side per unit of ground surface area. The index is a crucial indicator reflecting the conditions for plant growth, controlling the vegetation's photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, carbon cycle and rainfall interception. Enditem
