BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The steel roof of the main part of the China National Convention Center Phase II has been completed, the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office confirmed on Thursday.

According to the project team, the steel roof covers 26,000 square meters, as large as four football fields. However, the adoption of a "high-altitude sliding technique construction positioning" method along with 3D laser scanning technology has reduced the amount of aerial work and improved the efficiency.

As the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and Main Press Center (MPC) for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the China National Convention Center Phase II is scheduled to be delivered to BOCOG for use in July 2021.

With a total construction area of about 410,000 square meters, the China National Convention Center Phase II has become the largest single building under construction in Beijing.

Consisting of a mainly steel structure, the total amount of steel used in the China National Convention Center Phase II has reached 126,000 tons.

After completion, phase II of the China National Convention Center will be integrated with Phase I to form an exhibition complex with a total scale of 1.3 million square meters. Enditem
