DALIAN, China, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Rebounding from their defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande in the opening game, Shanghai Shenhua defeated Shenzhen FC 3-2 in the second round of the Chinese Super League (CSL) here on Thursday.
Zhao Mingjian broke the deadlock for Shanghai in the ninth minute as he beat the defense from Song Ju-Hun and Xu Yang, putting Shanghai ahead 1-0 after the first half.
The score did not change until the 48th minute when Zhu Baojie poked in captain Cao Yunding's cross from the right side, earning Shanghai a 2-0 advantage over Shenzhen.
Shenzhen pulled one back four minutes later. Nigerian striker John Mary Honi Uzuegbunam had a sliding shot on the header by Harold Fabian Preciado.
Song knocked down Zhang Lu inside the penalty area in the 60th minute. After watching the VAR, the referee showed a yellow card to Song and awarded Shanghai a penalty, which was converted by South Korean striker Kim Shin-wook.
The Shenzhen side also got a spot kick themselves before the final whistle, when Li Yunqiu brought down Dai Weijun at the edge of the box. Uzuegbunam seized the chance to score his second goal, but was unable to reverse the game.
"We felt a lot of pressure after losing the first game. Fortunately, we won the game tonight thanks to everyone's efforts," said Cao. Enditem
